The Journey
The Majestic Mountain Adventure
Your adventure begins at Llanberis Station at the foot of the highest mountain in England and Wales. Enjoy an awe inspiring 13 minute virtual journey in our film theatre at Llanberis Station. Before you board the train on the platform you will notice the train pushes the carriage. For safety reasons the carriage is not coupled to the engine which never exceeds five miles per hour.
As the train leaves the station you pass the original shed that houses the four steam and four diesel engines. With a round trip of 2 hours 30 minutes, the journey provides ample time to see the wonders of Snowdonia.

Before you know it you are on top of the impressive viaduct looking down
at the ancient woodland and passing the beautiful cascading waterfall.

Soon the line is out into the open landscape dotted with well attended homes
and farm houses. As you pass the ruined chapel you approach the first passing
point on the mountain at Hebron.
As you move above Hebron you can view the ice scoured valley. At Half Way,
the steam trains take on water whilst waiting for trains to pass.
At this point the train leaves the gentle, fertile bowl of the green valley below and approaches a dramatic, rock littered, alien landscape that has lain like this for more than 10,000 years. The train is now entering Rocky Valley.

At 1094ft (306m) below the Summit of Snowdon you reach Clogwyn station. Whilst the Summit visitor centre is being completed, Clogwyn will be the termination point. The views from Clogwyn can be spectacular as you gaze down Pen-y-Pass to the village of Nant Peris. The dramatic mountains of Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach can also be seen from Clogwyn.

The train then begins the final ascent to the Summit. This is the steepest part of the track at a gradient of 1 in 5 in places. On clear days the Wicklow mountains and the Isle of Man can clearly be seen. On the last part of the Journey you see the craggy head of Snowdon appear and the train takes you within 60ft of the peak.
