Snowdon Race 19th July 2014


This annual event brings a big crowd and a great atmosphere in the village. If you are thinking of travelling with us on Saturday please bear in mind there will be a few delays in Llanberis and you may want to leave more time to arrive at the station to catch your train. Between the Electric Mountain and the Royal Victoria hotel the following roads closures will apply:
 

13:50 – 14:15  - for the start of the race.

15:00 – 15:15  - for the end of the race.
 

There will be a lollypop stop / go system in operation between these times to allow runners to pass.

Voluntary Restrictions

The high level use of the bridleways to the summit of Snowdon for off-road cycling has led to serious concerns. Exceptionally high numbers of walkers use the Llanberis, Rhyd Ddu and Snowdon Ranger paths, particularly during the summer months, and because the Law (Section 30, Countryside Act 1968) requires that cyclists must give way to pedestrians at all times, this combination can make for an un-enjoyable and frustrating ride for mountain bikers.

Serious concerns have also been raised in relation to erosion and the safety of walkers. The following voluntary agreement to remedy the problem has been negotiated between the cycling organisations, the Sports Council for Wales, Gwynedd County Council and Snowdonia National Park Authority. 10.00am to 5.00pm from 1st May - 30th September.

Please do not cycle to or from the summit of Snowdon during this period. From October...

Commonwealth Gold Medalist At The Peak

Today the Queens Baton relay visited the Summit. Paralympic Gold Medalist Aled Davies was joined by the runners from Eryri Harriers carrying the baton all the way from Llanberis to the Summit. We also had a special visit from Olympic Silver Medalist, Commonwealth Gold Medalist and World Champion Iwan Thomas MBE.

2014 Season Opens In Glorious Spring Sunshine

This week's weather on Snowdon has been spectacular, with bright sunshine and wonderful visibility. Our season opens on Saturday 15th March 2014 with a full service operating to Clogwyn, the three quarter point on the mountain.
