Essential Information

Can I get a single ticket up?
Single tickets up can be purchased in the ticket office at Llanberis or in advance by telephone with a credit/debit card ( subject to a £3.50 booking fee).

Can I get a single ticket down?
Single tickets down are only available on a standby, first come, first served basis at the destination station of the day ( Summit or Clogwyn ) and walkers should be aware that there is no guarantee of there being trains with available seats on the mountain at any given time. Therefore, if you walk up, you should bear in mind that you may have to walk down as well.

What time are the trains?
The first train is scheduled to leave Llanberis at 09.00 am with later trains running at frequent intervals subject to customer demand. It is advisable to call us before setting off to avoid disappointment.

I have sat nav – what is your postcode?
LL55 4TY .... this is a generic postcode for the immediate area and will take you to within half a mile of the railway station. When you get to Llanberis please look out for and follow our many signs or use LL55 4TT for our car park.

Do you provide access for those with disabilities?
Snowdon Mountain Railway operates a disabled access policy and our trains are accessible to wheelchair users. Please see our DDA policy or phone for any assistance you may require.

How long can I stay at the new Summit Building, Hafod Eryri?
A return ticket on our Traditional /diesel service allows for an approximate 30 minute stop at the summit before returning on the same train; on our Heritage Steam Experience the stop is approximately 1 hour (This is the only logistical way we can guarantee to bring you back down the mountain as there may not be availability or trains later in the day and with the weather able to change very quickly train services maybe stopped at short notice).

Can I take my dog on the train?
Only registered support dogs can be allowed on the trains.

How do I get to SMR?
Snowdon Mountain Railway station is located in Llanberis on the A4086. The nearest mainline station is Bangor which is approx. 8 miles from Llanberis. There are buses from many local destinations. To find information on local buses & trains either call 0871 200 22 33 or click www.traveline.info.

When does the service to the Summit start?
Weather permitting trains normally run to the summit from May. Between mid-March and May, the trains will normally run to Clogwyn which is Âľ distance up Snowdon. Please phone to confirm, as this date is dependent on spring weather conditions on the mountain.

Can I pay with credit /debit cards at the railway?
All major credit and debit cards are accepted with the exception of American Express at Llanberis and the Summit (subject to communication link).

What happens if the weather is bad, can I get a refund?
If Snowdon Mountain Railway cancels a train you will receive a full refund. If you choose not to travel because of bad weather then you would forfeit your ticket.

What if I am late and miss my train?
All trains leave on time and cannot be delayed for late passengers. If we receive no notification and you still wish to travel you will have to purchase another ticket if there is still availability.

What age do you class as a child?
Children aged 2 or under may travel free of charge (1 Child per every fare paying adult) providing they sit on an accompanying adults lap and do not occupy a seat.

Do you offer discounts for groups and schools?
There is a discounted rate for groups of over 25 fare paying passengers. Please see our groups or schools pages.

Can I take a rucksack, pushchair or bike onto the train?
Snowdon Mountain Railway regrets that due to lack of space it is not practical to carry large, bulky items. Pushchairs may be left, at the owner’s own risk, at Llanberis station with the platform staff for collection on return.

Will I have to queue?
In peak periods it is possible that queues will form but tickets can be booked in advance of the day of travel and collected from a dedicated window in the ticket office without queuing. If travelling in peak times or on fine weather days it is advisable to get to the station as early as possible as at busy times it is possible for all trains to be sold by early afternoon.

Is there parking at the railway?
There is a pay and display car park at the rear of the railway.

Are there places to eat at the railway?
At Llanberis station there is the Station Buffet with seating indoors or outdoors and also the Platform Grill for take away snacks and meals. At Hafod Eryri, the new summit complex, Caffi y Copa serves drinks and a selection of hand held savouries.

Apart from the train ride, what else do I get for my money?
At Llanberis station there is a free film show in our 72 seater theatre and shopping and refreshment opportunities along with a free exhibition area. At Hafod Eryri there are refreshment and shopping opportunities and integrated visitor information.

Can I buy a souvenir of my trip to Snowdon Mountain Railway?
A selection of quality souvenirs is available in our shop at Llanberis station or at Hafod Eryri on the summit of Snowdon.

Can I buy a souvenir of my trip to Hafod Eryri at the summit of Snowdon?
A selection of quality souvenirs is available in Siop y Copa within Hafod Eryri at the summit of Snowdon.

If I walk up one of the other paths and catch the train down are there buses to take me back to where I left my car?
A Sherpa bus service operates throughout the season and runs a circular route around the Snowdonia area www.travelline.co.uk. Alternatively for taxi services call 07814 305510 or click www.ckcabs.co.uk

If I take the train to the summit are there maps to show me the choice of paths down the mountain?
Maps are available to purchase at Llanberis station and in Siop y Copa at Hafod Eryri on the summit. Also path information is available at www.hightrek.co.uk among others.

How long will it take to walk from Clogwyn to the summit?
An average time would be approximately an hour. It is a mile in distance and 1,000 feet increase in altitude.

Is there anywhere to get refreshments if I walk down the mountain?
On the Llanberis path there is a small cafe – Halfway House – which is not operated by Snowdon Mountain Railway and only opens during good spells of weather and during peak season.

Are there toilets on the mountain?
There are toilet facilities at the Llanberis Station and Hafod Eryri at the summit of Snowdon. Please note there are no toilets or other facilities at Clogwyn or elsewhere on the mountain.
